Medication in School

Please could we remind all parents that schools do not routinely administer medicine to children. Medicine should not be sent in to school with a child. The administration of medicine is the responsibility of parents and / or medical professionals If a child is prescribed medicine by a doctor and it is agreed that the child is well enough to attend school, this should usually be administered outside school hours or by a parent or other responsible person coming to school to carry out the task.

In cases where there is a regular need to administer medicine to meet the needs of a pupil who would otherwise be excluded from school for a long period of time, school will agree to administer medicine, however a form giving that permission should be obtained from the office beforehand and must be filled in before any medicine is administered.

Any child suffering from an outbreak of vomiting or diarrhoea must not return to school until 48 hours after the last episode.
